(Appleton, Wis.) – St. Paul Lutheran Church is proud to announce a Groundbreaking Ceremony for its new Early Childhood Center located at the corner of N. Morrison and E. Harris Streets in downtown, Appleton, WI on Sunday, April 12th. The event begins with a Groundbreaking Rite at 11:45 am. Among the guests invited to attend the ceremony: Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna, Alderperson Tim Trauger, Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran (WELS) Northern Wisconsin District President the Rev. Joel Zank, and WELS National Coordinator of Early Childhood Ministries, Cindi Holman.
Open to all families in the Fox Valley, the $2MM Early Childhood Center (ECC) will be completed by September 2015 and will accommodate up to 68 children ages six weeks to five years old.
Rev. Kenneth Frey, Senior Pastor at St. Paul is excited about the expansion and opportunities for outreach. "For nearly 150 years St. Paul Lutheran Ministries has been bringing Christian education to the downtown Appleton area,” Frey said. “This new center helps us expand on that objective of our ministry and serve more families in our congregation and the Appleton community."
The ECC Building Committee Chair, Todd Dvorack, believes parents (and children) will appreciate the up-to-date design features of the new building. “We put a lot of emphasis on creating a “daylight” environment. There will be windows from ceiling to ground level in the classrooms and tubular skylights bringing natural light into the hallways.”
St. Paul ECC Director, Ashley Steinmetz added, “With the prayers, support, time, and talents of our congregation, we are able to expand our Early Childhood Center, allowing us to better serve families in the Fox Valley. I cannot wait to see what the Lord has planned for us!
Immediately following the Groundbreaking Ceremony there will be an Open House of the recently renovated 109-year old church which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
The Groundbreaking Ceremony and Open House are open to the public. Free parking is available in the Appleton City Parking Ramp on Franklin and in the St. Paul Church parking lot.
